Big data science requires de facto standard analysis tools. However, often these standards are primarily technically oriented, with a strong emphasis on (bio)statistics. In the applied research on data analysis, we will focus on the inclusion of biological and technological considerations in the workflows. This should result in data analysis that is not only data-driven but enhanced with existing biological and technical knowledge.
We have a big advantage here because, in contrast to many bioinformatics groups, we have over 15 years of hands-on omics technology experience and have our own microarray and next-generation sequencing platforms. As such we can incorporate our know-how in all data analysis workflows.
